windows 7 not genuine after running Windows Activation Update from Windows XP Mode download site

Question
- text/html6/22/2011 6:51:56 AMDragonash0
Hi, I installed a 'ROW' version of Windows 7 64 bit two weeks ago and activated it. I had also installed SP1 a week ago. When I tried to download 'Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC' (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx), I installed 'WindowsActivationUpdate.exe' from that link. After that, my copy of Windows 7 is not genuine anymore.
Please help,
- Ash

In the 2nd Diagnostic I see the error code "HrOnline: 0xC004C4A2" which means Block Product Key
But, when I check the Product Key being used in the 2nd Diagnostic, the Product Key shows as Valid and Genuine.
This makes me think that the error code is just a left-over from when you were using the old Non-Genuine Product Key. I recommend that you reboot the computer and see if that resets the error.
If that doesn't clear up the issue then go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and after the Validation is complete reboot again.
Hope that helps,

Your Product ID line shows that you are using an MSDN product key. Unless you are the subscriber who was issued this product key, it is invalid for your use.
Windows Product ID: 00371-221-7336925-86711
The 221 is the MSDN indicator. If you purchased a retail box the entire box and its contents is a counterfeit product. Many counterfeit copies are being sold on eBay and the Amazon Marketplace as well as various websites around the world. The product key is not a genuine retail PK. It is a genuine MSDN product key and so will activate and pass as genuine until it is blocked by Microsoft as an MSDN key in use by a nonsubscriber. It takes a while for MS to detect and complete processing of abused keys. The seller plans to be doing something else by then.
Pursue a refund for an item not as described immediately. Do not accept a replacement product key from the seller. It will be from the same source.
Report the incident to Microsoft at
http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/reports/report.aspx
To see how good these knock-offs are becoming, see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzqNNiOM0cs
Buy a copy of Windows from a rock solid seller like the Microsoft Store or Amazon Corp (not an affiliate).
The attempt to validate in order to use XP Mode is what triggered the non-genuine alert. That is expected behavior when a counterfeit copy of Windows is installed. Sorry.

Thanks for the quick response.
Today, I purchased the Get Genuine Online Kit from Microsoft and got a new product key. However, when I entered in the new product key, the operating system is still not genuine.
Do I have to reinstall Windows 7 when I get the DVD in the mail?
Thanks,
- Ash
