    Hi,

We are getting a lot of alerts “Windows Storport Miniport Driver has timed out a request” from different servers.

I asked the person in charge of some of the servers and he said he don’t see any problem with those servers diskes and also can not find event that is mentioned in the description.

    Can someone help?

    Thank you

    Hello,

Definitely it should be in SYSTEM event logs on agent side, please have a look again.

    Hi,

what SystemCenter User said is true. There is an event. You can of course override the monitor. Its name is:

"Windows Storport Miniport Driver has timed out a request" or if it is targeted to Windows Server (Windows Server OS MP) then it is named "Windows Server Storport Miniport Driver Timed Out Monitor".

You can find the monitors under "Authoring", "Management Pack objects", "Monitors" and then when you open the proerties, navigate to Overrides and override the monitor for the respective class or group.

    Hello,

Based on event description you can ask windows/storage team to investigate the health issue of the computer's disk subsystemIt might be some issue with iSCSIController/RAID drive in request execution.

You can override the alert if not required.

We had the same issue that started some time ago.

We are monitoring VM's running on vmWare vSphere.

We received alerts on all VM's practically at the same time.

We then checked Event viewer on vmWare vCenter.

    We concluded:

    1. It started with Reset command to RaidPort0.

    2. After reset command, all disks reported warning.

    3. Warnings were recorded in System events log in all VM's.

    3. These warnings raised ERROR alerts in SCOM.

    4. Since we are running backups at that time, we decided to override these alerts in SCOM, ie. suppress them.

If someone from the SCOM development team is reading this, it would be more fair if these alerts are reported as warnings in SCOM, not errors. These errors are reported to our customers so when we configure override, they suspect that we are sweeping something under the carpet.

    HTH
