How to get a un2420 Mobile Broadband Adapter to work in Windows 10

I recently upgraded a HP Probook 6540b Notebook from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and found that the un2420 Mobile Broadband Adapter was not working. It would show up in device manager with a warning icon next to it.

So first thing to do:

So the first thing to do is to go and get the Windows 7 Pro driver for your notebook. In my case I went to the HP Probook 6540b support page  and downloaded the Qualcomm Mobile Broadband Drivers – Gobi2000

I then ran the executable. In HP’s case it will extract it into c:\swsetup\SPxxxxx by default and then install it automatically from there. It will fail.

Next thing to do is to go to the extracted directory (in my case C:\SWSetup\SP50377 )

Then go into the Qualcomm directory and right click on the GobiInstaller and select “Troubleshoot Compatibility”

Select Troubleshoot program

Select “test program”

If you go into Device Manager, you should now see the adapter successfully installed

Now with Windows 10, the HP Connection Manager just does not appear to work for this driver , or maybe even Windows 10?

Never mind, now that you see the adapter in device manage, just go here

and you will see you now have a cellular connection. Just right click on it and select connect. Up will pop up a settings window

Click on cellular
